History of Marathon Amsterdam
The first Marathon Amsterdam was held on 3 May 1975 and this year The Amsterdam marathon will celebrate its 38th anniversary. After Enschede this is the oldest marathon held in the Netherlands. The original marathon used to start and finish at the Olympic stadium and in 2013 Marathon Amsterdam will once again finish here. Famous runners who won the race more than once include Gerard Nijboer, Cor Vriend, Sammy Korir, Ferenc Szekeres and Plonie Scheringa and Marja Wokke.
Events at Marathon Amsterdam 2013
This year Marathon Amsterdam will feature four additional events in addition to the marathon, the Mizuno Half Marathon, 8k run and the Olympic Kids Run 1k and the mini marathon.
Marathon Amsterdam Expo
The Marathon Amsterdam Expo will be held prior to the race on 18-20 October and unites 40 000 runners from all over the world. The Expo is organised by Runnersworld and runners can enjoy racing related exhibits and information sharing.
Marathon Amsterdam Pasta Party
A Pasta Party will be held for all 750 ticket holders on 19 October 2013,at VAKZUID restaurant which is located adjacent to the Olympic Stadium.
